about

This recording took place in my dear home in Painted Cave (which since has been replaced by a new home and THE BARN.. my now studio/ concert space.)

Painted Cave is a small community of homes at the top of the mountain range above Santa Barbara, California where the Chumash native American tribe would go to ritual and trip their brains out and make cool cave art.. thus the name Painted Cave.

The road above the little village, Camino Cielo, (near my house), grandly shows the entire city and coastline, but at a distance, like it's lower in the mix than the nature you are standing in. In the forefront, spicy golden native grasses, the old rocks, the quiet presence... so good!

Looking on the other side of Camimo Cielo, is the glorious back country as it looked thousands of years ago.

The road leading up to my house was very steep, winding and wild.. leaving the people who would come to the home shows feeling they had battled for their lives... a good appetizer for the sharp raw of the music.

This recording is a snapshot of a moment in time and perhaps in it... the roots and earth and wild of the land from which it sounds.
